MMW | May '16
I love watching movies as I love reading books, so I figured that since I had a monthly book wrap-up, why not have one for movies?
Halfway through May, my summer classes ended and along with that was my social life (haha, not really, just exaggerating a bit). This month has been a good month to catch up with my (life-long harhar) movie challenge, 1001 must watch movies and I did, well I hope I did, but I surely have watched quite a lot movies (compare to my two movies last month 😂😂😂), so without further ado, let's get into my list:
1001 Must Watch Movies? No
My rating: ★★★☆☆
My thoughts and whatnot: The movie was okay. I'm not much fan of the story but the acting was superb: Christian Bale is definitely psycho here. And the ending? Brilliant! I like ambiguous ending, I like guessing what happened or if the whole movie really happened.
Jupiter Ascending
Initial/Release Date: February 5, 2015
1001 Must Watch Movies? No
My rating: ★★☆☆☆
My thoughts and whatnot: This is probably one of the few movies that I did anticipate last year. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I did not had a time to watch this in cinema. So a little more than a year later, I decided to watch this. I tried watching this movie twice but the first time I watched this, I was so damn bored I decided to shelf (what's the correct term for this?!) this. Anyway, flash forward, to few months later, and I finally did finish watching this. Why did I want to finish it? Uhm, Channing Tatum? That's a good enough reason for me to continue watching it, but, oh, boy I was surprised by what they did to Channing.
It was such a let down.
Sarah's Key
Initial/Release Date: October 13, 2010
1001 Must Watch Movies? No
My rating: ★★★★☆
My thoughts and whatnot: When I asked someone to recommend me a movie about WW2 (or something that happened or is connected with WW2), she said that the only movie that came into her mind was Sarah's Key. I have not heard of this movie before and, boy, was I missing out. It was such a stunning, stunning, movie! But the thing was I like the past events better than the present ones (even though it is very clear that the present is interwoven with the past).
1001 Must Watch Movies? Yes
My rating: ★★★☆☆
My thoughts and whatnot: This movie has been on my radar for quite some time. I've seen numerous reference in this movie and I've seen this "dodging bullets" scene everywhere *9gagcoughcoughcough*.That really fueled my desire to watch the whole series. I actually have all three movies (plus movie extras) here ready to watch. But... hmmm... I really didn't like this one. I was watching for quite some time and when I peeked how many more minutes till the end, I saw that I passed the 90 minute mark; I have yet to understand what the movie is all about then. Until the end, I was waiting for that magical moment, where I would finally, finally, understand what the fuss was all about but, alas, the movie ended without me seeing this "magical moment". But, overall? This movie was good. I may need to re-watch this in order to really understand it but it's not happening anytime soon.

1001 Must Watch Movies? Yes
My rating: ★★★★☆
My thoughts and whatnot: Okay, this movie is sick! I first saw this movie when I was searching for some trivia about The Fight Club (which also stars Brad Pitt) and then I saw that this was also included in my must watch movies-list. So that pretty much solidifies my desire to watch this. Plus, it was so highly rated and universally accepted to be a great movie. From the start (even the opening credits are greatly edited) up until the end, it was good. Okay, okay, there might be some dull moments here and there but the good stuff on this movie just trumps the bad. And this scene/line?BRILLIANT!
Initial/Release Date: Octorber 23, 2002
1001 Must Watch Movies? No
My rating: ★★★☆☆
My thoughts and whatnot: This movie was okay, I guess. I'm pretty sure I'm way more excited with the fact that I knew most of the characters than I am with the story. It's a great story, still. I like that the ending hints the first scene of The Silence of the Lamb.
Secretly, Greatly/Covertness
Initial/Release Date: June 5, 2013
1001 Must Watch Movies? No
My rating: ★★★☆☆
My thoughts and whatnot: I've heard of this movie because I'm a fan of Lee Hyun Woo (actor on the right side of the poster). I already had a copy for about a year or so; I really don't know why I haven't watched this. Anyway, the movie was good, as far as comedy-drama goes. AND the ending was good. It was a bit vague because in the end, I'm not sure whether to believe what I saw or not.
X-Men: Apocalypse
Initial/Release Date: May 19, 2016
1001 Must Watch Movies? No
My rating: ★★★☆☆
My thoughts and whatnot: I was not that excited with this movie as I am with the past movies. I have a free movie ticket for this one so I might as well watch it, right? The story line was good, the casting was superb but other than that, I can't see why we need another mutant story. I mean, don't get me wrong, this was pretty good but, really, another X-Men? Anyway, the post-credit scene (there's one!) hints another possible X-men (YAY! X-MEN #10! So excited!!!)
And that concludes my wrap-up. I've watched 8 movies this month, two of which are crossed off my must watch movies *yay!* June would be a busy month for me, with the opening of classes and the numerous reviews I have in line, but I wish I could make time to watch some movies.
What about you? What movies have you watched or wanted to watch this May?
