Synopsis:
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more
than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents including emails, schematics,  military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

★★★

I'm on a sci-fi only reading slump. I cannot continue or finish a sci-fi novel but this book work like magic. This was a page turner; it hooks you right up, I couldn't even put it down, I'm that hooked with the novel. I finished this book, all of that six hundred pages, in less than a day. Three hours to be precise.

This book is not your typical book; it's very unique. It has a collection of interviews (which I found hilarious), emails, military files, reports (I found this tedious and boring), in alternating and multiple point of views plus this book has illustrations. Illuminae follows Kady and Ezra and their journey to surviving the invasion of their planet and how much they are willing to sacrifice to protect it.

You know that feeling when you finish a book and you're just like "Fuck?" and you just stare at nothing and ponder about what you've just read? Well, that happened to me. It's not everyday I read a book that left me questioning the reality. I'm at awe in how this book affected me. But sometimes, I found some of the dialogues and scenes boring and forced. I have a feeling that this thick book could've been thin if it doesn't go round and round a certain topic.

Overall, it was a very pleasurable read. The story as well as the aesthetics were very refreshing. It was one hell of a book, that's for sure.

Did I like the ending? Yes, but I have that gnawing feeling of "I know that would happen." I kind of expected it; it didn't surprise me, really.
Is it a page turner? Uh-uh.
Would I re-read it again? Hell, yes. I would skip the AI part, though. I found those parts really boring.
