Synopsis:
On the night before they leave for college, Clare and Aidan only have one thing left to do: figure out whether they should stay together or break up. Over the course of twelve hours, they'll retrace the steps of their relationship, trying to find something in their past that might help them decide what their future should be. The night will lead them to friends and family, familiar landmarks and unexpected places, hard truths and surprising revelations. But as the clock winds down and morning approaches, so does their inevitable goodbye. The question is, will it be goodbye for now or goodbye forever?
This new must-read novel from Jennifer E. Smith, author of The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, explores the difficult choices that must be made when life and love lead in different directions.
My thoughts and whatnot:
My rating: ★★★★☆
In the course of twelve (more or less) hours, Claire and Aidan retrace all the steps of their relationship trying to find something in their past that might help them decide what their future should be ― stay together throughout college or break up. But as the clock ticks down and morning approaches, they have to decide, is it goodbye now or goodbye forever?
I have to admit, I'm really skeptical with this book. Why, you might ask. It's because I've never really love the other Jen Smith titles (i.e. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight & This is What Happy Looks Like). I mean, I enjoyed some parts, but over all it was just an "okay" book with me, average. So, in a nutshell, I have didn't have high expectations with this book but HGaEiB was such a surprise. It was lovely and romantic and realistic and truly up my alley.
When I first saw this book, I felt this surge of excitement. It was weird, really, but I felt really excited with this book. The premise was just great and realistic with a hint of uncertainty; I just love this combination. It feels really nostalgic, reading this.
The characters were so fun to read. Clare and Aidan seems realistic, they did not come off (to me, anyway) as a fictional character, they seem pretty real to me. Their relationship feels really mundane (worldly) but has complexity at the same time. I would have liked it better if the supporting characters developed well.
Overall, it was a very swift and enjoyable read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this very romantic and realistic.
Did I like the ending? Holy shit! Yes! It was an open ending and I love the idea of it and it's just so romantic it made me want to cry.
Is it a page turner? Yes!
Would I re-read it again? Of fucking course! Is this even a question?
