Skylar Fletcher and Caleb Morgan have been together for almost two years. On the surface, everything is great. Skylar is kicking major butt in swimming and has been offered the captain spot. Caleb is the top quarterback in the league. And even though their schedules can be a little hectic at times, they’ve always seem to make time for one another.
But once Caleb is approached by the NFL, his behavior turns odd. He flakes out on appointments to check out apartments and doesn’t call her on the nights when they’re apart.
Pro football has been Caleb’s dream since forever. But what kind of idiot asks a girl to drop everything so he can follow his dream?
RIVAL DREAMS is the dramatic and heartwarming conclusion to Natalie Decker’s RIVAL LOVE series.
Interview
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I was into poetry at a young age, but I guess I never realized I wanted to write stories until I was in college. It started out as simple class assignments and sort of branched off from there.
Where do you get ideas for your books?
My ideas come from everywhere. Life in general. This particular series came from an article I read about a rival teams making fun or bullying each other. This made me think about my high school and the crap we did when we were playing our rival teams. And it branched off from there.
What do you do when you're not writing?
I write an hour each morning or night, after or before I’m getting my children ready for Jr High and Elementary, then I’m answering emails and doing work at the day job: Collecting data, working or updating files, answering phones, taking orders. Then I’m picking up kids, cooking dinner, going over homework, bed times and that’s my typical day when I’m not writing M-F Sat-Sun I’m usually catching up on all my TV shows I missed during the week. Pretty boring huh?
Can you describe your writing process?
Outline-outline-outline. Not joking. I don’t get toooo into detail with it I just pick main plot points that I want to happen. I put it on post it’s why? Because it’s easier to change. I peel it off of the board and place the plot where I want it to be. Then I type for an hour because that’s how long I have. M-F Sat and Sun gets bumped to three. But as soon as I finish a chapter I go back and read it over. This saves me on editing. I used to write until it was all done, then go back and read. But I realized this was not working well for me because I’d forget what I might have been trying to say or whatever in that section SOOO I’d be rewriting whole chapters.
Do you have writing inspirations? Who are they?
My family, fans, and readers they all inspire me to write. Every story I write is for them.
What does your family think of your writing?
My family loves that I write. They tell everyone when my books are coming out and it’s really great!
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
How many readers like school rivalry books. It really shocked me, but I’m glad because I know there are books out there that have school rivalries but they never really got into the gritty details of what made them rivals, or what they may have done to the rival teams.
Would there be a companion novel/s to Rival Love series?
Not at the moment. I am working on a new series: Scandalous Boys, and the first book in that is called Bryce.
How did you come up with the book title?
Rival- because obviously Caleb and Sky are from Rival schools. Book one- Rival Love- because they LOVE their schools. Book 2- Rival Hearts- Because now these two rivals are fighting for each other’s hearts. Book 3- Rival Dreams- Because these two have their own future dreams and they have to fight for them. Together or apart …
What's next for you?
hat I’m working on at the moment is Scandalous Boys #2: Graham.
Natalie Decker is the author of RIVAL LOVE series. She loves oceans, sunsets, sand between her toes, and carefree days. Her imagination is always going, which some find odd. But she believes in seeing the world in a different light at all times. Her first passion for writing started at age twelve when she had to write a poem for English class. However, seventh grade wasn’t her favorite time and books were her source of comfort. She took all college prep classes in High school, and attended the University of Akron. Although she studied Mathematics she never lost her passion for writing or her comfort in books. She’s a mean cook in the kitchen, loves her family and friends and her awesome dog infinity times infinity. If she’s not writing, reading, traveling, hanging out with her family and friends, then she’s off having an adventure. Because Natalie believes in a saying: Your life is your own journey, so make it amazing!
